Message When making a high quality carbon hood for example the amount of meterial used is very little and carbon is light, so yes there are weight savings...for a few thousand dollars though.

With the overall not so great carbon fiber hoods that are available for our cars however, the quality is not nearly as good witrh most of the structure actually being just fiberglass with carbon only on the top for looks, so the amount of material used to keep it strong must be a lot more. This adds much more weight to the point of wherre it is actually same weight our more than our thin aluminum hoods.
